Learn more about the benefits of industrial cameras |

Do you want to learn more about the benefits and ways you can use industrial cameras? Multipix Imaging is exhibiting at Photonex09 and will have 3 live demonstrations showcasing the different ways that industrial cameras are used in the automation-process world today.
They fall into three categories; 1. Inspection 2. Visualisation 3. Recording ……or any combination of the above.
1. Inspection In recent years the term machine vision has been understood to mean the inspection of a product and based on the inspection result make a decision that provides constructive feedback. This is a typical use of industrial cameras when combined with image processing libraries and control hardware such as PLC’s. The type of inspection tasks vary enormously and include; Board, Wafer & Die Inspection, Completeness Inspection, Positioning / Alignment, Surface Inspection Quality Assurance, Print Inspection, Identification, Measuring, Packaging, Automotive & Robotics, and Surveillance & Security. Many applications can be solved using traditional 2D imaging techniques but in the last couple of years 3D image processing has been gaining momentum and is now an important tool for manufacturing, especially in the use of robotics. At Photonex Multipix Imaging will be show casing the latest 3D Vision tools ‘Sheet-of-light’ which extracts projected laser lines (eye safe) to produce an elevated/height model of the object. This will clearly demonstrate the advantages of 3D as it is impossible to inspect this product successfully with traditional 2D tools. Our software tools, HALCON, also include 3D Camera Calibration which uses camera parameters and pose to determine pixel coordinates and converts to world coordinates, thus robot control becomes easier. With these latest features HALCON 9.0 provides a comprehensive solution for all demanding 3D vision challenges.
2. Visualisation Many applications, such as those in the print industry, rely on an operator to align print layers using registration marks. An example of this is Flexography print processes used in production of paper and plastic bags, milk cartons, disposable cups and chocolate bar wrappers. Until now it has been common to use an analogue camera with optical magnification, which then displays the image direct to an analogue monitor and the operator uses to align the print layers. With the introduction of digital camera technology many print processes have been keen to benefit from the increased resolution and performance these ‘megapixel’ cameras offer. However, this requires a PC at every camera station to capture the digital images and display them on a high-def digital monitor/screen. No surprise this has hindered the move from analogue to digital cameras in these ‘visualisation’ applications. Also, it is often desirable to have the PC that performs the processing to be located outside the production area but still the operator must view cameras images local to the manufacturing process. At Photonex, Multipix Imaging will demonstration the unique technology called VDisplay, which is a product that can display multiple digital camera images direct to the PC monitor without the use of a client PC.
3. Recording Another use of industrial cameras is to record a process. Here applications include manufacturing, research, vehicle-mounted systems and even video game content creation. In many manufacturing settings multiple high speed cameras are required to record processes mainly related to quality control and failure detection. These cameras are usually both line-scan and area-scan, with many different frame sizes and speeds. Furthermore, long cabling distances are required because of the large area of the manufacturing environment. At Photonex, Multipix Imaging will be launching the very latest technology for robust, mobile, high-speed digital video recording. This new package is compact and offers a flexible choice of camera interfaces such as CameraLink, GigEVision, PAL, LVDS and HD-SDI. It is the ultimate industrial recording solution!
Multipix Imaging offer a wide range of cameras and accessories from world leading manufacturers and a variety of these will be shown on our stand C20.. |

| MULTIPIX EVENTS: OUR LATEST PRODUCT LAUNCH......... |
DID YOU SEE US AT MACH? If you didn't make it to the MACH exhibition this year you would have missed our 3D robot demonstration. Combining a DENSO robot, Basler Scout Megapixel camera and MVTec's HALCON 9.0 imaging software our robot successfully picked and placed car parts all week. Demonstrating the reliability and robust nature of HALCON 9.0 and it's powerful 3D vision tools.
3D vision is opening doors to applications that simply would not have been possible before. Later this year MVTec will enhance 3D features even further with the launch of HALCON 10 but for now if you are looking to learn more about the exciting possibilities of 3D vision and how it can benefit your application do not hesitate to contact our sales team.
